Assignment 7

I created this slideshow exactly how I envisioned it in my head. The order of the pictures flow in a way that I felt went good with my audio piece.

Photo Narrative

A Brief Moment of LOVE

I was struggling to find a perfect location and story line to base my photo narrative on. Due to the fact that I work on 6th avenue, I often get to see this LOVE sign (A LOT). I have always wanted to take a picture of it so I figured it would be a great idea to tell a story about love through pictures (using the sign).

Assignment 2: Services ad

Since I love shoes so much, I decided to create an ad for them. I believe that the main product has to be highlighted so that consumers can easily understand the ad. Thus, is the reason why I have utilized a lot of white space. I am also a symmetrical type of girl. Everything has to be even and centered so that the ad is easy on the eyes.

I used Baskerville (bold), Apple Chancery and Helvetica (bold) as my fonts. I think using different fonts make the ad a bit more unique. I also used the opacity tool so that my image can be a little transparent. I felt like the image I started out with was too rich in color and I wanted it to be more on the lighter side. The blur tool helped me add a little more definition to the ad as a whole.

When looking at this ad, I want people to be able to look straight ahead and not have to look all over the ad to find the main point. I didn't want too much chaos. I feel like I accomplished that with this advertisement.

Advertisements

BILLBOARD

In this Coca cola billboard there are many different aspects to point out. In this ad the circles in the bottle is graduated in a even way to provide the structure for the bottle. There is also no balance in the billboard. This billboard is definitely asymmetrical due to the fact that the bottle is on one side and there is no bottle on the other side. Another thing that caught my eye is how the "coca cola" name is in a different font and size then the "drink, choose, live" phrase. The bottle and the circles tracing from it can be seen as the figure. When looking at the ad, viewers can easily go from left to right in direction. Repetition is made through the circles and the way it flows across the billboard, which also shows visual frequency. Since the background is empty it represents white space. I think the white space helps keep the focus on the shape of the bottle.

MAGAZINE AD

In this MAC cosmetics advertisement for Nicki Minaj's Viva Glam lipstick there is an even distribution of elements, as well as balance (which is the lipsticks surrounding her throughout the whole ad). There is formal structure and radiation structure. The lipsticks represent a repetitive pattern that leads to the center point which is Nicki Minaj. I think it is good to have a main focus and that can clearly be seen here in this ad. This ad is symmetrical from the left to right. The position of the name "Viva Glam" is flushed to the bottom left instead of being in the center. This shows that the focus is on the imagery. By the lipsticks being on each side, it shows that mirroring and repetition comes into play. Since there is nothing but the blue water in the background, that would be the white space and "ground" since it is empty. The lipsticks also represent equal frequency throughout the ad. There are two representations of figures in this ad, the lipsticks and Nicki Minaj.

ONLINE AD

In this online advertisement for the iPad mini there is no balance. Which makes the ad asymmetrical. The tablet is heavily weighted on one side instead of the center and the words are on the other. I think it works good that "iPad mini" is in another size than the phrase under it. It keeps the focus on what the ad is all about. The tablet represents the figure. The layout of this ad directs eyes from left (introducing the product) to right (the actual product). The position of the name "ipad mini" is an introduction. There is no repetition or mirroring present in this advertisement.  There is a lot of white space (the empty background). This can be seen as a good thing since the focus can remain on the actual tablet.

PRINT AD

In this advertisement for Ram there are a variety of things happening. First, there is no balance. The words are heavily weighted to the left. This ad is also asymmetrical. With the divide of the page, it seems like there are two different ads. The way the words are positioned and composed show the use of  positive and negative elements. The figure is the Ram truck and the ground is the surrounding space around the words. The direction of the words are ascending. The words start off small and get bigger and bold along the way. The position of the truck defines its impotence and emphasis, since it is singled out and alone. I feel like there is an invisible spotlight on the truck. The grouping of the words help make order to what the advertisement is about. There is not a lot of white space present since the words take up most of the left side. The words also show a certain rhythm with the way it is positioned and presented.

PRINT AD

In this Mercedes Benz advertisement there is no balance due to the way the words are on one side and the way the picture is on the other. This ad is asymmetrical. There is a huge portrait on one side and small words on the other. The thing that immediately caught my attention was how the portrait of the man has positive and negative imagery, as well has mirroring. The position of the face is reversed. One side the man is looking straight ahead, on the other side the man is looking the opposite direction. The man's face is flipped and repeated on the other side. The man is the figure. The position of the words is in the center of the upper right side. The white space is grey and since the background is empty, it represents the ground that sets up the structure of the man's face. The way this ad is set up is interesting and makes me want to know more about the product. This advertisement is a eye catcher.
